Contact service fees to rise

Contact Energy fees for fault visits, reconnections and disconnections, and metering fees are set to rise between 11% and 31% in September.

The price rises do not include electricity. Electricity prices were last increased by an average 7% in March, due to the cost of natural gas.

Contact Energy spokesman Jonathan Hill said most service fees were one-off fees and customers would not notice any increases in their monthly bills.

The biggest fee increase was 31% for a non-urgent gas fault, which will not affect southern customers.

Other rises included 16% increases for weekend and same-day business services for electricity faults, which are not a supply or metering problem, rising to $145 and $110 respectively.

Residential meter tests rose 20% from $100 to $120, while a meter relocation rose 16% from $85 to $99.

Prices were reviewed annually, with many services contracted out, Mr Hill said.

There was upward price pressure on the cost of providing services.
