Seeking to mirror Queenstown's successful annual start-of-season ski sale, the Queenstown Mountain Bike Club will this month hold its inaugural Buy, Sell and Shred sale day and downhill race.

Proceeds from the sale to be held on Sunday, October 30, will go towards new trails in the area and will coincide with the first Downhill Southern Series race to be held in Queenstown.

"It's a fundraiser for trails, so we are hoping to make it as big as the ski sale," Queenstown Mountain Bike Club president Tom Hey said.

"There's lots of people wanting to get a new bike, and lots of people wanting to sell, including myself."

Unlike the Wakatipu Ski Club sale, registration for sellers will be at a flat rate of $10. The sale will begin in the Queenstown Preschool car park at 10am.

Mr Hey said vendors could sell out of the back of a car, or alternatively, were advised to bring a table, "because admittedly we don't actually have any tables".

The club hoped to turn the sale into an annual event if it proved successful, he said.

After the sale, round four of the Downhill Southern Series race will start at 2pm, in which each racer will take two timed runs.

"Pinewood Lodge will be hosting the apres [event] afterwards from about 7.30pm, which should be a good night with a barbecue, a bit of music and a few beers," Mr Hey said.

Registration for the race will take place at the bike sale.

Entry will cost $15 for members and $20 for non members.
