Schools swap to fill spots

Two South Island Roman Catholic secondary schools, Verdon College in Invercargill and St Kevin's College in Oamaru, have swapped staff to fill vacancies for principals.

The Verdon College board of trustees on Friday appointed Jarlath Kelly principal, after the appointment earlier this year of its former principal, Paul Olsen, as St Kevin's principal.

Mr Kelly is at present deputy principal of St Kevin's, and will take up his appointment at Verdon College in week seven of this term.

Board chairman John Prendergast said Mr Kelly was the unanimous choice of the board.

He was selected from a strong field of six candidates for the position.

"He will provide strong and dynamic leadership for the college and we are looking forward to welcoming him to the Verdon family.

"Verdon College has been on an upward momentum the last few years, and Jarlath will give further impetus to that," Mr Prendergast said.

Mr Kelly, his wife Rachael and their five young children will relocate to Invercargill in September.

Verdon College deputy principal Grant Miles will be acting principal until Mr Kelly takes up his appointment.
